Although children learn at a different pace than one another, once they start to age their physical and intellectual skills increase. No child is considered â€Å"smarter† because he or she might be more advance in one area than another child. Every learning skill that children are grasping on a daily basis has room for improvement. IIaI chose ice skating as creativity for one of the nine learning experiences. Not only is ice skating a fun activity but it also helps with physical development of the child. Ice skating increases lower body strength by working the muscles in the legs. When learning how to ice skate you are actually teaching how to balance yourself. In this day age, children aren’t as physically active as before in previous generations and by doing an ice skating activity it could lead a child to a lifelong sport. IIbAnother one of my nine learning experiences I chose for my resource collection is language and literacy. The goal is to pronounce 3 letter â€Å"at† words such as cat, bat, hat using flash cards, letter pronunciation CD Rom, and bingo board and chips. This activity helps with cognitive development by knowing the sound awareness of the letters and reasoning on what letter you would pronounce first, second, and third. IIcMaking beaded bracelets with colored beads and string is a fine motor skill which teaches hand and eye coordination. I decided to make colorful bracelets with elbow macaroni noodles because not only is it a fine motor skill but it is creative as well. Using noodles instead of beads teaches my students that there are alternatives when you don’t have the original material. My students get creative by painting the noodles different colors and decorating them with glitter and rhinestones. You could also use other noodles to give your bracelets a different shape or size. Ziti, penne, rotelle, and rigatoni are other styles of noodles that could be used to make your own personal pasta jewelry. I give my children options because it helps to express their creative side and how they view their imagination. IIdProper communication is important when it comes to language development. You have to use more than one communication strategy to promote language development. Some of the ways I teach to help language development children from baby to adolescent can learn from. I always talk clearly and not too fast, I think that is the one thing you should always do when trying to develop better language skills. If you talk to your students with scrambled words then they won’t be able to comprehend on what’s being said. I also read books and point to the pictures with my children asking â€Å"what do they see† or â€Å"what is happening† in the book so I can not only see if their paying attention, but to see if how they are pronouncing pictures shown on the page. Music CD’s also helps with language development. I sing songs with my students, getting them to use as many words as possible mastering one word at a time. There is one bilingual child in my classroom and English is his second language. Since English is his second language make sure that I talk to him clearly and use flash cards with pictures. I also spark up conversations with him about his interests and home life so there is a sufficient amount of the English language being used to help the growth of his language development.

Macbeth: The Three Witches William Shakespeare has been by far the world's most popular playwright for more than 350 years. His ingenious ability as a playwright has captivated audiences and will captivate audiences for years to come. William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, in 1564. The specific date of his birth is not known but is celebrated on the feast of St. George, April 23. Little is known about his boyhood, but through examination it is thought that he collected a lot of his information from books and from daily observation of the world around him. During his life Shakespeare wrote many brilliant tragedies. He died on April 23, 1616, at the age of 52. One of these brilliant tragedies was Macbeth. It is thought to have been written between 1603 and 1606. Macbeth is considered the shortest of Shakespeare's tragedies, but not less powerful in its depiction of evil, greed, jealousy, and the madness these emotions bring to a person. (Shakespeare, pg. v) In any work of literature or drama there is usually foreshadowing. Foreshadow can be defined to be, "a sign of something to come: indicate or suggest beforehand; prefigure; presage." (Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia) Playwrights use this technique to give the audience a sense of what is to come or what exactly is going to happen to a character. Foreshadowing can be easily detected or it cannot be noticed at all until the end of the play or story. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the prophecies of the witches and thoughts of Macbeth himself to foreshadow within the play. And Macbeth himself detects them somewhat as does the audience. In Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the three witches as main sources foreshadowing. In the play they are conveyed as prophecies. The audience experiences a little of these prophecies almost immediately in the opening scene and act of the play. When they talk about meeting Macbeth they say they will greet him, "when the battle's lost and won." (Shakespeare, pg.1) And then they yell together, "fair is foul, and foul is fair."(Shakespeare, pg.1) These two examples foreshadow that some sort of evil will be coming and that there will also be a victory of sorts, but the audience doesn't know specifically what yet. These also suggest a great battle is to be fought against good and evil and the events that follow will unfold at a rapid pace. A Change of heart About Animals Essay

Although much of modern day technology is focused on materialistic things rather than the issues, such as animal rights, which are more important. â€Å"A Change of heart About Animals†, by Jeremy Rifkin, is an article where he argues how animals have feelings and should have their own rights. He describes how animals have the ability to learn. What he doesn’t do is describe animals as a lower class, but as â€Å"Our fellow creatures† so he states in his article. In Rifkin’s article he uses language such as ethos, pathos, and logos while using a persuasive tone. Ethos is expressed when Rifkin credits the scientists at Oxford University with the testing of two crows and their ability to snag a piece of meat from inside a tube. Pathos is also expressed towards the end of the article when he emotionally calls animals â€Å"our fellow humans†. Last but not least logos is expressed when he states how the European Union outlawed the use of isolating pigs in stalls. Some have argued that by simple jester’s animals can live happier lives. For example, in Germany pig farmers are encouraged to give pigs twenty seconds of human contact each day. Some of the sponsors that provide this research are fast food purveyors, such as McDonalds, Burger King, and KFC. Their contribution has eased the pressure off of animal rights activists. Even though steps have been taken towards research development, there is still more to be learned. Because of such inhumane behavior shown by some farmers, some universities have introduced law courses on animal rights. Some of these Universities have filed law suits for animal rights. As a result of this Germany became the first nation to guarantee animal rights in its constitution. It just goes to show that there are still some good people out there. It’s obvious that more action needs to be taken towards achieving our goal at animal rights. With the help of animal activists and some major universities, we can achieve animal rights. It isn’t fare to them. That’s why it’s up to us to give our fellow creatures the rights and protection that they deserve. Just think, would you like to be caged all day with no say on what to eat, and live in hard conditions? A Change of Heart about Animals Essay In â€Å"A Change of Heart about Animals† Jeremy Rifkin says that animals have the same human qualities that humans have. And with that they deserve more if not the same amount of respect as human beings. He gives many examples on how some animals are human like emotion and skilled wise. I disagree with Rifkin. I think that most animals should not get more respect than human beings reason being that most of the animals he listed are going to be killed and be used for reasonable human use. To begin with, Rifkin gives many examples that are self contradicting to what he is trying to argue. First Rifkin says â€Å"Studies on pigs’ social behavior funded by McDonalds at Purdue University†¦ they crave affection and are easily depressed if isolated†¦ lack of mental and physical stimuli can result in deterioration of health.† Here Rifkin is saying that pigs need attention in order to stay healthy. I disagree with this because in the end the pigs are going to be killed and be used for human consumption so why would it care if they are depressed or not. Also, it contradicts itself because the people funding it are one of the major corporations killing thousands of pigs day in and out so it makes it seem like they are trying to save the pigs. Later he states â€Å"Philosophers long argued that other animals are not capable of self awareness because they lack individualism†¦ At the Washington National Zoo, orangutans given mirrors explore parts of their bodies they can’t otherwise see, showing a sense of self.† Here he is stating how animals do in fact have a sense of self awareness and that orangutans are a prime example. I disagree with this reason being that Rifkin didn’t give the name of the philosophers who said this, making it not credible because anyone could have said that. Also they are not really giving the orangutans to freely observe themselves because they have them locked up in enclosure at the Washington national zoo. All in all I think Rifkin does not give a strong enough argument. He gives examples that easily contradict him making his argument not credible enough for the reader. With this I think Rifkin is in no position to say that animals deserve more rights than human beings.

The purpose of the proposal is to speak in behalf of all SDA students regarding our complaint about the dress code policy of the college. To come up with such topic is not an easy task for it is Just normal for a college or any institution to have a dress code policy. However, we pushed through with it because we want to open the eyes of those in authority to the fact that De La Salle College of Saint Benilde is an art school. The group came up with such topic because they believe that Benilde is a place for artists. It is in that place that they should be given the chance to act freely and that includes wearing whatever they want to. The college should be the first to understand the students way of expressing themselves even if it means supporting their not-so-normal fashion sense. To be able to defend the topic properly, the group made a research about anything that could help them expound the topic. They focused more on fashion since the topic is closest to it. They also enumerated the attires that the college considers inappropriate and stated their main thoughts about the reasons of students for wanting to wear whats prohibited. In addition, the group also stated the reasons why a certain school has to have a ress code policy and why Benilde should not be included in the list. The group based their conclusion on what stood out among all the information that they gathered. The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) School of Design and Arts(SDA) is a 14-storey academic complex,located at 950 Pablo Ocampo Street (formerly Vito Cruz), and about 350 meters away from the Taft Campus. It was envisioned as a home for a new generation of Filipino artists and designers who are equipped with technical expertise and global competenciesIt is, by far, one of the most ambitious rojects of De La Salle Philippines. [pic] Just like what is stated above, SDA campus is home of the artists. Degree programs of the college include Production Design, Filmmaking, Animation, Multimedia Arts, Arts Management, Music Production, Dance, Photography, Architecture, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and lastly, the course that is related to the project proposal, Fashion Design and Merchandising. Since the college offers the most non-traditional courses in the Philippines, it is basically normal for it to also be unique when it comes to the policies. It is supposed to let the students express ho they really are especially when they are inside the campus. One way of proving that the college really wants to support the Benildeans in their extraordinary talents is by allowing them to wear what they want. Most unfortunately, the college has this so-called dress code policy. Section 1. 3. 3 of CSBs Student Handbook says that students are to dress in modest, decent, good taste. Any attire which tends to scandalize or offend others in the academic community, such as, but not limited to backless, midriff, tubetops and see-through attires are prohibited. Yes, CSB only wants whats best for its students but it also has to realize that Benildeans have a small possibility of offending one another in terms of clothes since they share the same passion. Here are some of what the college considers inappropriate: See-Through Fabric tops where undergarments can be seen Plunging Neckline necklines exceeding 4 inches below the collarbone Racerback Mini Skirts and Short Shorts It is given that the pictures posted here are really revealing. However, it is also important to note that the people who are fond of wearing those attires have a reason for it. Its not like that they wear those clothes for the sake of getting attention. Some people like wearing racerback tops because they are into sports. Maybe they feel even more close to sports whenever they are in that attire. Others may also Just want a sporty image. There are also people who like wearing mini skirts and short shorts. The reason for this is simple those are what make them feel comfortable about themselves. Nowadays, people are not into wearing pants anymore because they find it hard to move around. See-through fabrics are also loved by some. It can be because of the style or the uniqueness they bring. According to the research, young people nowadays wear shorts with no malice and yet the old people find malice in these so-called shorts. The group really thinks that people live in a modern generation already. The past and the present are two different things. If people will continue living in the past, how will the world move forward? Benilde should stop implementing the dress code policy because it is also the main reason why everything about it is an art. And art also means expressing ones self through the clothes a person wears. The picture above popped out of the screen while the group was doing a research bout fashion. Obviously, the three ladies in that poster are wearing something that is strictly prohibited in the college. How will the students give Justice to their project Fashion Design and Merchandising? It is really amazing how Fashion Design students can survive despite of the dress code. If they can attain success even with the dress code policy interrupting their way, how much more if it is not implemented? If they can completely express themselves or show off their talents without thinking of being sent to the Office of Student and Behavior? Benildeans keep on complaining about he dress code because they know very well that they have the right to fght for what they think is right. They chose Benilde because they think that the college is going to support them all the way, that it is not like other universities that know nothing but academics, that the college is aware that its students have a unique taste in everything, and a lot more. The group made a research about the importance of dress code policy. Here are some of the gathered information: Establishing a dress code will benefit greatly by enabling unity. There are other ways to express yourself. Definitely a dress code is part of being educated. Dress code can help reduce the potential for conflict. Being made fun of is not cool. Ready for the workforce. Dress code enforces motivation and discipline. Schools should enforce dress codes because some clothing can be distracting and offensive to other students. Better looking environment. Dress code helps us not look trashy. It removes a lot of problems. Modest attire is a plus. School is a place to get good education. It is better to be yourself after school. Rules are set to be followed and are set for a reason. ery different from other schools. It is an art school which makes the students even more unique. As Benildeans, the group is confident to say that there is a sense of respect in the college. There are lots of wardrobes in the college and instead of Judging the fashionistas, they are being looked up to because of their courage to stand out. They are not afraid to be labeled as weird because they know that the community understands where they are coming from. If the person reading this certainly does not have an artistic side, this will really be hard to understand. But if those in authority will Just try to open their minds, this will all make sense. The group found an online article written by Luke Larson that explains exactly why schools should not have a dress code policy. If you were a student attending a school with a dress code where everyone wore the ame stuff, how would you feel? Youd probably Just feel like another average boring kid who doesnt stick out at all and might not even get noticed or acknowledged by other students and even teachers. Schools shouldnt have a dress code such as khaki pants and a polo shirt. If there is a dress code, kids wont be able to express their creativity in the clothes they wear. For example, a kid at my school whos name is Max Bush is very creative in the clothes he wears. Sometimes its a purple dress shirt with athletic shorts or nurses pants and a t-shirt. If there was a dress code, he wouldnt be ble to be creative anymore. Without the ability to be creative in the clothes kids wear, theyll Just feel like another face in the crowd. You wouldnt stick out at all and some people may not be able to recognize you from some angles. The author got everything right. Although he is referring to kids, same goes through the teens or the adults for that matter. When there is a dress code policy, students tend to shy away from who they really are. They are not given the chance to have their own identity since they are being ruled by the school. They unintentionally become like the rest. And because De La Salle College of Saint Benilde is an art school, an expression of ones self is very necessary. Benildeans are not supposed to be equally the same because the artistic sides within them are different. The photo caught the groups attention because it seems like whoever made it wants the college to realize that its a school of fashion. And everyone knows that fashion is something not all people appreciate because of its uniqueness. A person really into fashion is capable of doing crazy things Just to show his or her love for it. He/she can even have the courage to show off some skin. Those who have a deep just to give Justice to the fashionistas and fashionistos most famous line: Fashion is passion. The group even encountered a Facebook page entitled AB-FDM: Fashion is my passion, obsession, and possession. For a person to say that, its like telling that fashion is his/her life and that he/she will die without it. The facebook page is Just a proof of how some people give importance to it. Since Benilde decided to offer such program(s), its the schools responsibility to extend its patience to the students who are very unmindful of the dress code.

Company Law Legal Organisations Essay Introduction Thor plc is a Public Limited registered company as per the provisions of Companies Act 1985, listed in London Stock Exchange.   A public limited company must have at least two directors to manage the business affairs of the company apart from a qualified company secretary.   Further public limited companies are also permitted to offer shares to the public to raise funds by way of public offer of shares to a minimum value of   Ã‚ £50,000. Thor plc is a commercial catering company   which has both shares and debentures to its credit.   A public limited company is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association which details the entire internal and external boundaries of a director beyond which a director cannot act in any manner.   Chapter 2 Section 171-177 of Companies Act 2006   provide about scope and nature of general duties of a director. Some of the important general duties are : Duty to act within powers and in accordance with the company’s constitution (MA) and exercise powers dutifully.(Sec.171) Section 172 states that a director must promote and work to the success of a company in bona fide and in good conduct for any long term decisions, in the interests of company employees, fostering the business relationship with business suppliers, customers and others, consider the company’s operations, its impacts on environment     and community.   A director must have interest to maintain the reputation of the company. Section 173 states that a director has the power to exercise independent judgment which is in accordance with the provisions and compliance of legal provisions enabled by Companies Act 2006 and authorized by Company’s constitution and which is not restricted and in contradiction with the agreement entered into between the director and the company. Section 174 states that a director must exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence. Section 175   provides that a director is in a position to always avoid a conflict of interest. Section 176 provides that a director must not accept any benefits   from third parties. Third parties means a person other than the company, a person acting on behalf of a company, an associate body or a body corporate. Section 177 provides that a director can always declare interest in a proposed transaction or arrangement. The proposed interest must be disclosed or declared either in a meeting with other directors, by a notice to other directors in accordance with Section 184   (notice in writing) or Section 185 (general notice). A director need not disclose interest in case the director is of the opinion that (a) the proposed interest for a transaction may give rise to a conflict of interest. (b) To an extent, if other directors are aware of transaction. ( c) The proposal need to be considered in a meeting of directors or by a committee of directors appointed for this purpose under company’s constitution. Section 178 deals with civil consequences of breach of general duties by   a director. Companies Act 1985 imposes a statutory prohibition that it is a criminal offence if a director without the prior permission of the Board, considers an option to sell or buy shares or debentures.   Insider trading is a criminal offence under Financial Services Act 1986 as per sections 61-62A when a private investor or person suffers a loss from breach of statutory duty which is caused by a director. Under Criminal Justice Act 1993 Part V, if a person knowingly commits insider trading, it will be considered as offence if, buy or sell shares is performed in a regulated market, where there is intermediary professional. All the above offences are penalized either with fine or imprisonment of up to seven years. In view of the above, Mary is either required to pay a penalty or seek assistance from a legal practitioner 2(a) In October 2008, certain of the codified directors’ duties come into force. Explain briefly the relevant fiduciary duties which will be applicable prior to that date Directors have the major decision making power in a company. No other position in a company is greater than the position of a director.   The duties of directors are designed in a way that companies’ interests are protected, shareholders interests are protected in order to make corporate business as transparent and efficient.   There are many rules, statutory duties and fiduciary duties for a director’s position which have to be fulfilled in accordance with Companies Act 1985 and as amended by Companies Act 1989.   The government is of the opinion that codification of directors’ duties which are included in the Companies Act 2006, which was granted permission from Royal Assent on 8th November, 2006, ensures the law to be consistent and also enables directors to not to breach any duty that is written in law. Prior to the codification of directors’ duties, the fiduciary duties were prevalent which are briefly explained as below. Further fiduciary duties are of two categories. (1) Duty to act in good faith in the interest of the company and not for any collateral purpose. (2) Duty to not to permit conflict of personal interest with that of duties to be discharged as director of a company.   Ã‚  Fiduciary duties can never be breached by a director wherein case, the director would be held responsible for any loss suffered thereof.   Any profit or loss that is made from the discharge of duties by   a director, must be disclosed to the company in all respects.   Directors owe duties to the company only and not to individual members.   A director must disclose any interest in a proposed contract or a contract in a meeting of the directors of the company.   Director’s service contract must be kept available for inspection by the members.   Service contracts for more than five years must be approved in a general meeting.   Further a director must notify the company about any personal interest in shares of the company.   Personal liability for a director is more when   a director is participating directly or indirectly in fraudulent trading in the event of a company being liquidated or wrongful trading when a company is being declared as an insolvent and the court holds director as liable. When a company is in insolvent liquidation, the directors of the company are not eligible to incorporate another company in the same name or similar to the existing name for a term of five years. In case if a director is floating another company with the similar name, director becomes personally liable for the debts of such new company. Further an officer or director who signs cheques or orders for goods on behalf of the company is also held personally liable for all the transactions of the company, when the name of company does not appear on cheques or order documents.  Ã‚   Company records have to be kept at the registered office for inspection of company law officials or such other authorized persons as per Companies Act 2006. Fiduciary duties of a director are of equal source of personal liability as that of general duties of a director.   All fiduciary duties are self-explanatory whereas all general duties are specific and task-oriented for each director.   Breach of director’s duties result in either as offence, personal liability or termination of directorship as per the provisions of Companies Act 2006. It is also important that the acts of directors are within the purview of Articles of Edu-con Ltd., and considered not as an offence.   However it is important that the Board must be notified about the paying of commission by Bees Books Ltd., to the director even though it is a small amount,   for all good purposes and to keep the transparency of the transactions. According to the EU Directive when a company is taken over by another company, existing board or change in board effects the value of   the company. In the present case, Edu-con Ltd has been taken over by another company, and subsequently there is also a change in the board members which means the existing four directors of Edu-con Ltd no longer carry the position of director. Any transactions that are still in term period do not hold good when a director ceases as board member which is relevant in the case of   Wilson Rabbit who has been receiving commission from Bees Books Ltd for printing contract. Similarly the land that is acquired from Bell-Agentis can also be reconsidered whether it should be retained by the new board members.   The new board has every right and authorized to write-off all the transactions that were exercised by previous board basing on the interest of the new board and for making the business good. Conclusion Companies Act 2006 is yet to come into force effectively by the end of the year 2008 as there are many changes in Company Reform Bill to bring order to all the existing UK companies and for all the new companies that are being incorporated. However it is important to always refer Companies Act 1985 as well Companies Act 2006 for deriving the maximum benefits in the matters related to directorships and financial related matters. The secret behind the success of these companies to have sustained in both the phases (initial stage where companies saw an immature growth, later stages where the industry matured) of the industry growth is because of innovation and effective people management skills employed. Upon interaction and detailed study of corporate world it comes to our understanding that training plays a very essential part in bridging the gap between the employee skill sets and the skills associated with a particular job. As the new industry emerged there were other sectors which boomed along with the growth of IT industry namely manufacturing. During the growth of various industries players in each industry, in order to cope with the competition concentrated on having skilled manpower in their armory, this proved to be a very lethal weapon when they fired (launching new product, implement new technology, use new strategies etc.) Thus updating their employees with the necessary skill sets and knowledge became an integral part of an employees tenure in the organization. In this report lets try and understand on what training and development is all about and various methods adopted by various organizations to achieve the above said. Definition of Training Training may be defined as a Planned program designed to improve performance and bring about measurable changes in knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSA) and social behavior of employee. It is as act of increasing the knowledge and skills of an employee for doing a particular job. Features of Training Unable the employees to deal with the changing jobs and roles. Develop knowledge, skill and attitude for handling jobs most efficiently. Bridges the gap between the current level of employee KSA and the required level of KSA to handle job efficiently. Training is basically job-related and need-based. Short-term activity designed essentially for operatives. Role of organization in training and development An organization has a very close relationship with the trainee and the trainer because it is the first contact for both. The demand for the training in the organization increases when the organization wants; To hire new people training as a means of training new recruits. To Expand When the company wants to increase its headcount. To increase certain number of staff (in position) by a certain date. To enhance the performance of employees. Organizations name to be a part of training unit. Traditional and modern approach of training and development Traditional approach- Most of the organizations before never used to believe in training. They were holding the traditional view that managers arc born and not made. There were also some views that training is a very costly affair and not worth. Organizations used to believe more in executive pinching. But now the scenario seems to be changing. The modern approach of training and development is that Indian Organizations have realized the importance of corporate training. Training is now considered as more of retention tool than a cost. The training system in Indian Industry has been changed to create a smarter workforce and yield the best results Training Options There are four training options that an organization can consider before providing training to their employees;Outsourcing; Outsourcing exempts the organizations to concentrate on its core business. Also, with the availability of sufficient amount of know-how, proficiency in the market it does not make business sense for organizations to have a separate training division. One approach is to tic up with some reputed training or educational institutes and send employees for training. This way, company gets to avail the required expertise and high-quality training programs and saves money on content development, recruiting, and maintaining training team. The only issue in outsourcing training is that the quality of training has to be frequently tracked so as to ensure the trainers performance and training effectiveness. Internal Training: A lot of questions has been raised whether to go in for training outsourcing or setting up an internal division for training. Some companies recruit external trainers and call them to the company site make them use their tools to train employees. This alternative is generally for the new joiners who arc given the fundamental or job-related training in-house and then send outside for higher training. Product-related Training: The dealer who delivers (he apparatus or installs the system offers the initial training. The user may negotiate with the dealer tor a regular upgradation of product-related know-how or expertise in place of a one-time training. The apparatus dealer may choose to send their trainers or recruit outside trainers. Independent Professionals: Considering the emerging threats and opportunities, the professionals need to keep themselves updated of the developments. In this option, the responsibility of training is entirely on the individual and a better-trained professional will always have better market worth than others Training In an organizational setting Any organization has to opt for some or other type of training for increasing the knowledge and skills of its employee for performing a particular job. Training is mainly job-oriented; it aims at maintaining and improving current job performance. Training is needed to achieve the following purposes in an organization: Newly recruited employees require to undergoing structured training inputs so as to learn and perform their tasks effectively. The nature of training they receive determines their competencies in handling the job(s) assigned to them. Imparting need-based training to existing employees for grooming them to handle their current jobs better and to prepare them to handle higher level jobs. Existing employees require refresher training so as to keep them abreast of the latest developments in the concerned job-related operations. In the face of rapid technological changes, this is an absolute necessity. Training is also necessary when a person gets transferred from one job to another (job rotation) or when there is enhancement in this job domain (job enlargement). Training makes employees mobile and versatile. They can be placed on various jobs depending on organizational needs. Training improves overall job productivity / employee productivity. Training, when proactively and selectively imparted to employees(s) to prepare them to shoulder higher level jobs, is known as succession planning. Training Policy Every organization should have a declared training policy, which is understood and supported by employees at all levels. Training can be abortive it there is no commitment on the part of those being trained. Training should not be seen by employees as a penalty but as an opportunity for them to further their knowledge and expertise both in their own and the organizations interest. The climate needs to be created in which they are eager to seize such opportunities and in their enthusiasm may well be able to identify some their own needs. The Need for Training Good communications and consultation arc essential for efficient operation in any organization. However, their impact is often diminished by a lack of skill or knowledge on the part of the participants. It is important, therefore, to provide both managers and employees with training in the skills and techniques required for communication and consultation. Training can help employees better understand the information they are given and can encourage them to play a fuller part in the way the organization conducts its affairs. Training courses in particular can be a useful way of giving employees factual information about their employment because they necessarily include a substantial clement of explanation and provide opportunities for questions to be answered. Managers have an important role to play in communicating and consulting and good training can enable them to: Ø become more aware of the importance of good communication and consultation practice Ø understand their roles and responsibilities as communicators Ø Support those who are less outspoken and improve their ability to communicate. Training is particularly important for supervisors who have important communications responsibilities but often limited experience. Communication and consultation skills should have a place in any development program for them as well as for other managers. Trade unions should also ensure that they provide adequate training for their representatives to enable them to take a full part in employee communications and consultation. Wherever possible training should be participative and trainees should be encouraged to exchange views, take part in discussions and share ideas and experiences. Such participation not only makes for more effective training but also helps to foster the idea of employee involvement which is an underlying principle of consultation and communication. It is good practice to evaluate periodically the effectiveness of any training undertaken. Why training need analysis? Training need analysis is conducted to determine whether resources required are available or not. It helps to plan the budget of the company, areas where training is required, and also highlights the occasions where training might not be appropriate but requires alternate action corporate need and training need arc interdependent because the organization performance ultimately depends on the performance of its individual employee and its sub group. Organizational Level Training need analysis at organizational level focuses on strategic planning, business need, and goals. It starts with the assessment of internal environment of the organization such as, procedures, structures, policies, strengths, and weaknesses and external environment such as opportunities and threats. After doing the SWOT analysis, weaknesses can be dealt with the training interventions, while strengths can further be strengthened with continued training. Threats can be reduced by identifying the areas where training is required. And. opportunities can be exploited by balancing it against costs. For this approach to be successful, the HR department of the company requires to be involved in strategic planning. In this planning HR develops strategies to be sure that the employees in theorganization have the required Knowledge. Skills, and Attributes (KSAs) based on the future KSAs requirements at each level. Individual Level Training need analysis at individual level focuses on each and every individual in the organization. At this level, the organization checks whether an employee is performing at desired level or the performance is below expectation. If the difference between the expected performance and actual performance comes out to be positive, then certainly there is a need of training. However, individual competence can also be linked to individual need. The methods that arc used to analyze the individual need are: Appraisal and performance review Peer appraisal Competency assessments Subordinate appraisal Client feedback Customer feedback Self-assessment or self-appraisal Operational Level Training Need analysis at operational level focuses on the work that is being assigned to the employees. The job analyst gathers the information on whether the job is clearly understood by an employee or not. He gathers this information through technical interview, observation, and psychological test: questionnaires asking the closed ended as well as open ended questions, etc. Today, jobs arc dynamic and keep changing over the time. Employees need to prepare for these changes. The job analyst also gathers information on the tasks needs to be done plus the tasks that will be required in the future. Types of Training A. On-site training Ø On-the-Job Training On-the-job training (OJT) is one of the best training methods because it is planned, organized, and conducted at the employees worksite. OJT will generally be the primary method used for broadening employee skills and increasing productivity. It is particularly appropriate for developing proficiency skills unique to an employees job especially jobs that are relatively easy to learn and require locally-owned equipment and facilities. Morale, productivity, and professionalism will normally be high in those organizations that employ a sound OJT program. An analysis of the major job requirements (identified in the position description and performance plan) and related knowledge, skills, and abilities form the basis for setting up an OJT plan. To be most effective, an OJT plan should include: The subject to be covered. Number of hours. Ø Apprentice Training Apprenticeship is the process of learning a skilled occupation through both on-the-job training (practical, paid experience) and learning the related technical knowledge in a classroom. You must be 18 years old, or be 16 years old with parental approval. The length of training varies from one to six years, depending on the occupation. Training is given under the guidance of experienced master workers. Apprenticeship training is a method that combines actual work experience with classroom related instruction and produces a worker skilled in the occupation, who is capable of exercising independent judgment and who subscribes to the highest standards of professional conduct. There is a written agreement between the apprentice and the employer, which acknowledges their joint commitment to the training process. This agreement is approved by the New York State Department of Labor. Registration of your apprenticeship training program guarantees that your workforce will be consistently trained at the highest skill levels, that your program will be nationally recognized, and that you are entitled to the benefits of registered apprenticeship under Department of Labor laws and regulations. Mentoring principles and techniques Rather than simply give the answers, the mentors role should be to help the mentors find the answers for him/here. While giving the answers is usually better than giving no help at all, helping the mentor to find the answers for him/herself provides far more effective mentoring, because the process enables so much more for the mentored in terms of experience of learning. Give someone the answers and they learn only the answers; instead mentors need to facilitate the experience of discovery and learning. The mentor should therefore focus mentoring effort and expectations (of the person being mentored especially, and the organization) on helping and guiding the mentored to find the answers and develop solutions of his/her own. If a mentor tells a mentored what to do, then the mentored becomes like the mentor, who is neither right nor sustainable, and does not help the mentored to find his/her own true self. The mentors role is to help the mentored to find his/her own true self: to experience their own attempts, failures and successes, and by so doing, to develop his/her own natural strengths andpotential.(his relationship between a parents and a child. If a parent imposes his or her ways, methods and thinking upon a child, the child becomes a clone of the parent, and in some cases then falsifies his or her own true self to please and replicate the model projected by the parent. The true self might never appear, or when it begins to, a crisis of confidence and purpose occurs as the person this to tend and liberate his or her true self. Ø Job Rotation This kind of training involves the movement of trainee from one scat to another, thus helping him to have a general understanding of how the organization functions. Apart from releasing boredom, job rotation allows workers to build rapport with a wide range of individuals within the organization, facilitating future cooperation among departments. This personnel strategy offers a great amount of flexibility for organizations when transfers, promotions or replacements become Inevitable. Job relation may pose several problems, especially when (he trainees arc rolled on various jobs at frequent intervals. In such a case, trainees do not usually spend long enough in any single phase of the operation to develop a strong degree of expertise. For slow learners, it does not give enough room to integrate resources properly. Trainees can become confused when they are exposed to rotation, with contrasting style of operation. Ø Refresher Training The purpose of this training is to make the trainee undergo the steps / activities of the job with some updated inputs so as to brush up the knowledge of the trainee on the basic principles and theory. By organizing short term courses, which incorporate the latest developments in a particular field, the company may keep its employees up-to-date and be ready to take the emerging challenges. It is conducted at regular intervals by taking the help of outside consultants who specialize in a particular subject/process. Ø Brainstorming Brainstorming is a practical exercise to stimulate creativity in a group, and is a very useful training technique. Brainstorming is based on the premise that it is possible to generate more ideascollectively than the sum of the ideas, which would be produced individually. This arises from the interaction among members, which enables once member to trigger off new ideas in another. The process of brainstorming demands discipline by the group and not to succumb to the temptation to pass judgment on ideas as soon as they arc read out. The subject of the session having been decided, the members are required to write down a many ideas as possible for dealing with the problem without attempting to evaluate them. They should let the ideas flow freely and write them down even if they at first seem impractical. After a suitable period of time, each member reads out his list and the other members arc asked not to criticize, however impractical a suggestion might be. A combined list is produced and the group is then encouraged to evaluate each item. The cross-fertilization that lakes place at this stage leads to the development of new ideas, which may or may not be directly related to the original ones. How the process develops from this point depends on the purpose of the exercise. The final list of ideas is prepared by taking cues from all members who are totally practical suggestions and acceptable to all concerned in the group. B. Off- Site Training Ø Lectures/Seminars A lecture is the method learners often most commonly associate with college and secondary education. Yet, it is also considered one of the least effective methods to Use for adult learners. In this method, one person (the trainer) does all of the talking. He or she may use handouts, visual aids, question/answer, or posters to support the lecture. Communication is primarily one-way: from the instructor to the learner. Pros: Less time is needed for the trainer to prepare than other methods. It provides a lot of information quickly when it is less important that the trainees retain a lot of details. Cons: Docs not actively involve trainees in training process. The trainees forget much information if it is presented only orally. Ø Role Playing During a role play, the trainees assume roles and act out situations connected to the learning concepts. It is good for customer service and sales training. Pros: Trainees can learn possible results of certain behaviors in a classroom situation. They get an opportunity to practice people skills. It is possible to experiment with many different approaches to a situation without alienating any actual customers. Cons: A lot of time is spent making a single point. Trainers must be skilled and creative in helping the class learn from the situation. In some role play situations, only a few people get to practice while others watch. Ø Simulations Trainees participate in a reality-based, interactive activity where they imitate actions required on the job. It is a useful technique for skills development. Pros: Training becomes more reality-based, as Trainees arc actively involved in the learning process. It directly applies to jobs performed after training. Simulations involve yet another learning style, increasing the chance that trainees will retain what they have learned. Cons: Simulations arc time-consuming. The trainer must be very skilled and make sure those trainees practice the skills correctly. Only perfect practice makes perfect. Ø Computer based training Content for the training experience comes primarily from a videotape or computer-based program. Pros: It is easy to provide this training and the trainer can follow-up with questions and discussion. It is also easy to assure that the same information is presented to each trainee. o Cons: It is expensive to develop.
